Q&As with Julie Anderson
How did you get your start in the data/collections world?
“I learned about the collection industry in the best possible place – the marketing department! As the proposal coordinator for a collection agency, I had to understand how an agency functions in order to respond to RFPs, from compliance policies to dialing strategies to new client implementation process. My in-depth knowledge gave me the ability to move throughout the company in different roles and departments. Today, my experience in the collections industry gives me a better understanding of what our clients face on a daily basis.”
What’s a typical day look like for you at LocateSmarter?
“I’m not sure I ever have a ‘typical day’, but I do manage a few things that keep our sales and operations teams moving forward, including contracts, security audits, client testing and implementations, file processing monitoring, client inquiries and billing & invoicing. I also have oversight for our manual dialing services and our electronic signature solution, EFT Agree.”
When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your free time?
“I’m a homebody more than an adventurer. I like to hang out with my family, read books and find Netflix series that both my husband and I enjoy (not always easy). I also have a love for Marvel movies. ”
What changes would you like to see in the collection/data industry?
“I would like to see the continued change of collaboration among all agencies in the industry. The atmosphere when I first started was one of fierce competition and closed doors. I believe the ever-changing compliance landscape resulted in the need for agencies to open their doors and share best practices and fight together to alleviate uncertainties. I hope this strength in numbers continues to grow.”
Recently, several members of the LocateSmarter team took the Myers-Briggs personality test. What were your results?
“I got ISFJ – Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judgment. They call this personality type The Defender, which I think is fitting because I’m very loyal to and protective of both my family and my work team. I can turn into a Mama Bear pretty quick when I need to.”
What feature do you think is really beneficial to our clients that they might not realize?
“We have an amazing analytics team that can look at your disposition data and help customize our phone append product according to individual portfolios. We’ve seen amazing lift in recoveries for clients that open their data to us and let us truly become a partner. Some agencies are hesitant to be that transparent with another company, which I think is historically pervasive throughout the industry. Times are changing, however, and I’m confident sharing data to get better results will be the new norm.”
We hear you’re a bit of a trivia whiz. What random subject do you know a lot about?
“I won’t say I know a lot about it, but I did take several art history classes in college. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, but I do have a deep appreciation for art. That being said, it was obviously a long time ago because I didn’t remember Picasso had a Blue period and got knocked out of that day’s trivia game.
Something I do know a lot about? Spelling and grammar. Go ahead, quiz me on that.”
Okay now a series of quick questions…
• Favorite book: Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, but I like most books that are written well – I loved the Harry Potter series!
• Favorite food: It depends on my mood. (Right now I’ve been on a cottage cheese, pretzels and French dressing craze – yes, that’s all together!)
• First job: Worked the concession stand at the local movie theater (I used to have nightmares that popping popcorn was trying to bury me alive)
• Favorite quote: “The snozberries taste like snozberries.” ~ Willy Wonka (You didn’t say it had to be an inspirational quote.)
